Abstract

Background: Nurses experience high levels of psychological distress among health care workers including 657 nurses in. Nurse burnout is a significant problem that impacts outcomes for nurses, patients, and health care organizations,. Burnout is  characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a decrease in personal  achievement, which can affect the quality of nursing services. This study aims to determine the relationship between workload and burnout among nurses at RSUD Dr. Achmad Mochtar Bukittinggi. Method: The research used a quantitative approach  with a cross-sectional design, the study population consisted of 45 nurses, with  purposive sampling employed for participant selection. Data analysis involved both  univariate and bivariate analysis, with data presented in table format. Descriptive  analysis was used for univariate analysis to assess the distribution. Results: 16 nurses with a low workload, 3 nurses (18.8%) respondents feltburnout,Meanwhile, of the 29 nurses with a high workload, 20 nurses (69.0%) respondents felt burnt out. The results of the study after conducting the chi square test obtained a p value of 0.004. Conclusion: Burnout is physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion due to high workload. This condition can have a negative impact on the quality of care provided by nurses, potentially reducing the quality of patient care.
