Efforts To Increase Students Knowledge and Confidence in Managing Behavior Bullying

Background: The National Comorbidity Study reports that one in four people meet the criteria for anxiety disorders, with a prevalence of 17.7%. Patients who visit the Emergency Department (ED) often have high levels of stress and anxiety, which makes effective communication by healthcare professionals essential to help manage patient anxiety. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between verbal and nonverbal communication of nurses and patient anxiety in the ED at Permata Hati Hospital, Muara Bungo, in 2024.
Methods: This is a descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted from December 5, 2024, to January 5, 2025, in the ED at Permata Hati Hospital, Muara Bungo. The population consisted of all patients visiting the ED at Permata Hati Hospital who met the criteria for respondents. The sample size was 100 individuals, selected using accidental sampling.
Rseults: Based on the results of research on verbal communication, it can be seen that more than half, namely 57 people (57%) of nurses' verbal communication is good and 43 people (43%) have poor verbal communication. Meanwhile, more than half, namely 51 people (51%) of nurses' nonverbal communication was good and 49 people (41%) of nurses' nonverbal communication.
Conclusion: It is recommended that nurses improve their verbal communication with clear and easily understandable explanations and enhance their nonverbal communication, including expressive gestures, touch, and other techniques..
